The First Two Weeks

For the first two weeks of my program I will be exercising every other day.

How I eat is an every day concern, and I will be focused on the fact that the key to my success will be mealtime.

As far as strength and cardiovascular work, I feel it important to give my body adequate rest at the beginning. Muscle and other tissues need to repair. I am suddenly putting my body under stress after a long period of very little activity. I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET INJURED OR DISCOURAGED, ESPECIALLY AT THE EARLY STAGES.

It's all part of my longterm strategy. I would suggest being conservative with initial workout goals and being determined to make progress every day. With diet, every day that you eat right is a victory. With exercise, start small. INCREASE YOUR INTENSITY A LITTLE AT A TIME IN A WAY THAT'S SAFE AND ACHIEVABLE.

One success after another will lead to real and lasting results.

My Soundtrack

"Generations" by Journey

I thank Jeff for that one.

It's actually a good album. It's the music I used for my 2006 workouts. I played it on a Discman. This Christmas I got an ipod. The first (and so far, only) thing I put on it? "Generations". The tempo of each song helps me to pace myself and to know how far through my workout I am. It's rockin' and upbeat and gives me a certain intensity that I need to drive myself.

Of course, I could've put "Rocky" on it, but that's too obvious. Maybe when I put it into high gear in late March or early April...

Day 1

I started today! Had a good first workout on the exercise bike at work.

EXERCISE: 26 minutes bike/three sets of 10 pushups and 15 crunches

WEIGHT: Did not have access to an accurate scale today. I'm estimating 240-something
